| Local tourist attractions & things to do.. Bradford-On-Avon - The picturesque Saxon town of Bradford-on-Avon is just 1 mile away. Spend a day wandering the narrow hillside streets and sample the delights of some wonderful old English pubs and restaurants. You will be spoilt for choice with the gift shops and boutiques that the town has to offer. A visit to the Tithe barn and surrounding country park is a must. Market every Thursday, next to the historic Town Bridge. Bath - The World Heritage city of Bath is just 8 miles away, and easily reached by train, from the station in Bradford-on-Avon. Trains run every 30 minutes, take in the views of the Limpley Stoke Valley on the way. Georgian architecture, shops, museums, restaurants, there are not enough minutes in the day . Bath Thermae Spa- Newly opened in 2006, a fantastic natural hot spa complex featuring rooftop pool with panoramic city views and a range of health treatments and massage. www.thermaebathspa.com Longleat Wildlife Safari Park and Elizabethan Mansion of the Marquis of Bath. Provided the backdrop for productions such as Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice and Cranford. One of Britains most beautiful villages, home of Fox-Talbot museum of photography. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lacock Jane Austen Centre, Bath - Celebrating Bath's most famous resident, a permanent exhibition which tells the story of Jane Austen's time in Bath. Enjoy an afternoon tea in the Regency tea room ! www.janeausten.co.uk Cycling - The lane leading to Merkins Farm forms part of the Wiltshire Cycle route. Cycle through the lanes, visit the National Trusts 15th century Great Chalfield Manor along the way. This is a great area for cycling- there is also a super cycle way along the Kennet and Avon Canal which forms part of the larger "Wiltshire Cycle way" Rent bikes from The Lock Inn, for a ride along the canal and have lunch in the cafe. Walking The whole area is littered with paths, bridleways and tracks, or you can walk beside the river or the canal. Enjoy a walk, across the fields, over the footbridge, to the National Trust's 15th Century Great Chalfield Manor. Great Chalfield Manor, As mentioned above, the 15th Century Manor house and garden is within walking distance of Merkins Farm. Complete with a moat, Arts and Crafts garden, and charming 14th century church set in the grounds.
